'Quèquicom', Vicorob and Josep Sallent, winners of the Manel Xifra i Boada Awards

The prizes will be handed out next July 7th in the Sala de Graus of the Facultat de Lletres of the University of Girona

The College of Graduate Engineers and Industrial Engineering Engineers of Girona and Comexi have announced the winners of the 12th edition of the Manel Xifra i Boada Awards that will be delivered on July 7 in Girona, in the Sala de Graus of the Facultat de Lletres of the University of Girona (UdG).

This year, the program 'Quèquicom' of the TV Channel 33 has been recognized for the transmission of technical and technological knowledge. Regarding the prize for the best career, this 2017 award falls to Josep Sallent, industrial technical engineer who was being head of the Industrial Safety Section of the Catalan Government in Girona, a teacher at the UdG and a member of the Board of the College of Girona’s Industrial Technical Engineer. Finally, the Vicorob Institute of the UdG has also been recognized with the prize of the most outstanding group of applied research or technological center. Created in 2014, it is a reference institute in the Catalan field in analysis of Medical Imaging, Multimedia Imaging, 3D Perception in industrial environments, underwater vision, underwater robotics and artificial intelligence.

In parallel, as regards the annual recognition of the young engineers who have been awarded by the Board of the Escola Politècnica Superior of the UdG for the best final year project, Albert Cucharero will receive the Manel Xifra i Boada prize on July 7 for: 'Designing an eolic park with a hydrogen production system through electrolysis of water', Eric Pairet will also be recognized for 'Integration of rudders in the SPARUS II robot for the control with five degrees of freedom', as well as Albert Lara for ‘Press filter for mining' and David Brugat for the project ‘Formulation and characterization of Nano cellulosic supports with magnetic properties'.

These awards, founded in 2005, convened by the College of Graduate Engineers and Industrial Technical Engineers of Girona and Comexi, are supported by the University of Girona and sponsored by the Banc de Sabadell and the Caixa d’Enginyers.

The awards recognize the transmission of technical knowledge, the technological center, the professional career and have been consolidated as key awards that project the importance and values ​​of the transformation of knowledge and engineering work in Girona and Catalan society.
